- Principle
- The determination of electrolytes by the electrode method is based on the Nernst equation. For monovalent ions at 25 °C, the Nernst equation is simplified to: E=E0isa+0.05916 where: E: measured potential E0isa: initial potential Ion activity (concentration) The electrode potential is proportional to the logarithm of the ion concentration (activity).
